How Administrative Management Can Be Done In Visualr?

Introduction

Visualr provides ample features and capabilities for the system administrators to effectively manage, modify and control the application interface and accessibility available to the users in a number of ways and at a number of levels. The administrators may carry out the Role Management, User Management, Password Management and the Application Configuration Management right through the Visualr control panel. Let’s have a look upon each one of them, and delve a bit deeper to know how it actually works.

Role Management

Visualr allows enterprises to carry out effective role management for various users that have been added to the solution. The ‘Role Management’ sub-menu appears inside the ‘Administration’ menu that appears on the top once the administrator signs in. The administrator interface may be navigated by clicking on any of the links in this menu. Upon entering the interface, Visualr administrators may create roles and further assign privileges to the users added, according to their roles.

User Management

For carrying out effective user management, Visualr provides a comprehensive functionality to manage users on the basis of their activity roles and access hierarchy. There are two main user categories, in either of which a specific user may be added to Visualr – the ‘Developer‘ category and the ‘Dashboard Viewer‘ category. While a Developer user of Visualr exercises greater rights in the hierarchy of users, with access to higher level functions and features in the application, a Dashboard Viewer user of Visualr is granted a limited level of access, which may be used for viewing the dashboards shared with them, and analyze the business related inferences offered by the same. Visualr also supports a single sign-on integration for the Windows Active Directory members. Windows Active Directory is a directory service developed by Microsoft and provides a broad range of directory-based identity-related services to software developers. The members of Windows Active Directory using Visualr are authenticated and given direct access to the solution either as a Developer user of a Dashboard Viewer user.

Password Management

The Visualr users can manage their passwords upon entering the ‘Password Management‘ sub-menu through the ‘Administration’ menu. It opens a ‘CHANGE PASSWORD’ form will open, wherein the password may be modified following easy steps. It’s worth noticing that while a regular Visualr user (Developer or Viewer) can modify only his own password, but a Visualr administrator is able to modify the password for other Visualr users too. The passwords of Windows Active Directory users can not be modified by Visualr administrators as they are authenticated by Microsft Active Directory Services itself.

Application Configuration

The Visualr administrators are able to modify the application configuration of the solution entering the ‘Application Configuration‘ sub-menu through the ‘Administration’ menu. Therein, there are three tabs titled ‘Activation Details‘, ‘User Settings‘ and ‘Miscellaneous‘, and denote three different manners in which the Visualr application installed upon the system may be configured. The ‘Activation Details’ tab allows the Visualr user to enter, edit or modify ‘License Details’ pertaining to the Visualr solution;  provides basic information about the developer users currently logged in the Visualr solution including their User IDs, IP Addresses and the Timestamps of their sessions; and enables the user to enter the Activation Key for the Visualr Edition.

Similarly, the ‘User Settings’ tab allows the user to edit or modify the ‘Date-Time Format’ to be followed by the Visualr application. Available Date Formats comprise of dd/MM/yyyy, dd/MM/yy, dd/MMM/yy, dd/MMM/yyyy and so on; while the two Time Formats are 12 Hrs and 24 Hrs. Apart from it, this tab includes the option to upload custom images such as the company logo or banner that can be used later as the background image while designing the dashboard, through the ‘User Images’ section.

Finally, the ‘Miscellaneous Settings’ tab provides the functionality to carry out a number of actions such as ‘Max Rows Scan’ that enables the user to define the number of rows to be scanned within the flat and excel files, for determination of the correct data type for different columns; ‘Command Timeout (Min.)’ that specifies the time duration in minutes, for the solution to wait from the database server, in case the Visualr solution is using MSSQL, Oracle or My SQL server; the ‘Viewer Timeout (Minute)’ that denotes the maximum time duration in minutes to be specified for a dashboard viewer, for which he may remain inactive within the current session; the ‘Sync Data (Minute)’ drop-down menu that denotes the time duration in minutes, after which at regular intervals Visualr will begin looking for the saved file in the source folder, and launch the conversion process; the ‘Don’t check for update’ that allows the users to block alerts about new versions of Visualr; the ‘Don’t show navigation’ feature that blocks the navigation panel from appearing on the screen when Visualr solution is launched every time; and the ‘Load static files from CDN’ the feature that loads static Javascript files and images from a ‘Content Delivery Network’ (CDN).

Conclusion

On the whole, it may be said that Visualr offers a wide range of functions that make it simple and convenient for the system administrators to manage and modify the application options that enhance the users’ ability to create clean, sharp and insightful dashboards in a straightforward and seamless manner.
