How can Visualr Help in Data Visualization Using MS Excel Database?

In this age of the business world getting more and more data dependent every moment the phenomenon known as ‘Big data’ has emerged as the biggest disruptor in the global markets of late. While big data is for sure a powerful resource for the business enterprises and organizations in every field, data alone per se cannot yield them any fruitful results if it is not analyzed to bring any business insights. Therefore it is highly imperative that the data is analyzed in a visual manner so that the business decision makers may assimilate it easily, and be able to understand what the facts and figures pertaining to data have behind them to reveal.

Microsoft Excel is a very popular application that is used by millions of business houses, organizations, institutions and domestic users across the globe every day. Backed up with endless functionalities, it also has its limitations when it comes to visualizing huge datasets.

Visualr is a cutting edge data visualization and analytics tool that helps business enterprises delve deeper into the big datasets and enables them to gain helpful business insights in the form of charts, reports, graphs, and dashboards. It seamlessly extracts data from a number of database formats, and one of them is Microsoft Excel database file format.

This integration makes Visualr really convenient to be used by even small and medium business organizations for visualizing their data successfully. Let’s have a look how Visualr may be used by Microsoft Excel users for pulling data from the database files and creating queries, reports, charts and dashboards from the same.

First of all, the data stored in the Microsoft Excel files need to be pulled into Visualr solution. This data is added to visualize data repository from MS Excel database files through the ‘Data Provider’ section of the solution. Any alphanumeric name may be assigned to the internal dataset while the database file is being added in ‘Data Provider’. At times, you may wish to keep the column names exactly as they have been displayed in the first row of the MS Excel database file sheet. In such a case, you need to check the ‘First row has column names’ option while adding the MS Excel database file. If you don’t select this option, the column names within the query builder will be assigned by default as ‘Column 01’, ‘Column 02’ etc.

After adding the MS Excel file to Visualr repository you may have a quick data preview of your MS Excel database added to the Visualr repository, by clicking on the preview button. Also, at several times you are required to skip a certain number of initial rows of the MS Excel database from being added to Visualr data repository. If so is the case, you can configure any number of rows initial rows to be skipped by specifying the same in the ‘Data Provider’ section itself.

An amazing feature being offered by Visualr is that you can directly insert the MS Excel data added to the Visualr data provider into a Microsoft SQL database. For being able to do that, you just need to use the ‘Insert to database’ feature available in the data provider section. Similarly, if you intend to insert a Microsoft Excel database file hosted online into a Microsoft SQL database, you need to locate the file from the hosting server right inside the Visualr ‘Data Provider’ section itself.

After adding the Microsoft Excel database file to the Visualr data repository, you can conveniently build queries and create formulas to further design your visual charts graphs and dashboards in a seamless and effective manner.
