Dashboard Designer

Dashboard designer is the third and last tool required for creating the dashboard under the Dashboards section of Visualr. With the help of this, you will be able to assemble all the reports created by the Report Builder tool in a meaningful way to perform further analysis. You will also be able to add images, logos, text and apply an array of filters upon the reports while designing the dashboard.

  • Assign any specific name to the dashboard in the topmost text field, which helps you in recognizing and remembering the chart This name could be any alphanumeric term, and will appear in the dashboard drop down menu. Next field is a drop-down menu denoted by the text ‘[Please select role]’. It helps you in determining the capacity in which you’re creating the new dashboard. Further, the next and last field in this tool is a yet another drop-down menu denoted by the text [Please select user]. Selecting the name of any user who uses Visualr in your network, you can specify the person with whom you want to share your dashboard. It could be your colleague, your senior executive or even a client.


The “Tools” menu on the top left of the Dashboard Page comprises of three sub-menus, named ‘RSS Feed’, ‘Shapes’ and ‘Images’.

  1. Controls

The ‘Controls’ sub-menu comprises of many drag-and-drop objects, named ‘Text Editor’, ‘Dropdown Box’, ‘Textbox’, ‘Hyperlink’, ‘Daterange’, ‘Multiselect’ and ‘RSS Feeds’. If you want to add any text element to the dashboard page, you can use the ‘Text Editor’ object. Drag the object and drop it on the dashboard designer pane, and enter the required text. The text matter can also be formatted with respect to font face, size, color, emphasis or paragraph alignment and so on. Similarly, the ‘Dropdown Box’, ‘Textbox’, ‘Daterange’ and ‘Multiselect’ , objects help in filtering the Dimensions of a chart according to the requirement of your chart, while the ‘Hyperlink’ field allows you to embed any world-wide web based link inside your chart.

With the help of ‘RSS Feeds’ object, latest news stories or articles or real time data can be displayed upon the Dashboard. It provides you with two ways to do so.

First one is ‘RSS News Feeds’. It pulls the latest news stories or articles from a pre-designated RSS feeds URL, and displays them within the Dashboard Tab of your choice.


Second option is the Google Hot Trends. It retrieves the real time data from the Google servers, and displays the latest Google Hot Trends inside the Dashboard Tab.



  1. Shapes

A variety of shapes is available in this sub-menu. You can drag and drop any of them to your dashboard designer page, or combine many of them to make an elaborated drawing or a more complex shape. Available shapes include lines, basic geometric shapes, arrows and mathematical functions

  1. User Images

Through this took, you can drag the images of your choice that have already been uploaded to the application memory by you, and drop them to your dashboard designer page as the background image. The new images can be uploaded through the application configuration section.


If you wish to experiment with the visual formatting, layout and design of the dashboard, you may select any ‘Template’ of your choice and modify it further too, as per your preferences.


Date Format Management in Dashboard Designer

You can manage the Date Format for your charts in the Dashboard you are going to create through the ‘Properties’ panel within the Dashboard Designer section. Herein, you have to specify a control name in the text field titled ‘Control Name’ and a caption in the text field titled ‘Caption’. You can also select the front color and back color for the caption through the dropdown menus titled ‘Caption Front Color’ and ‘Caption Back Color’ respectively. If you wish to set the selected daterange value as the default value for all Visualr dashboards, you must select the checkbox titled ‘Save selected value as default value’, while the date format for the dashboard may be specified through the dropdown menu titled ‘Format’.



Current Date-Time Picker in Dashboard Designer

In case your chart has to display dynamic values pertaining to a recent date with respect to the time of access, you can assign default value within the Date-Time Picker tool in Dashboard Designer as ‘Today’, ‘Tomorrow’, ‘Yesterday’ or a few days before or after ‘Today’.

Inside a dashboard, the options available inside dropdown menus must be linked with different chart values pertaining to the desired report.
