The AIDA64 memory benchmark demonstrates that memory bandwidth increases in direct proportion to CPU clock speed. Going from DDR3-1333 to DDR3-1600 resulted in a 14 percent increase in performance on our standard CPU, and a 16 percent increase in performance on our overclocked CPU. Upgrading from DDR3-1333 to DDR3-2133 resulted in a 33 percent boost in performance on the standard CPU and a 43 percent increase in performance on our overclocked CPU. The results of the copy and latency tests were nearly identical. Most impressive is that the write test revealed a substantially higher 15 percent boost in performance from DDR3-1333 to DDR3-1600 on the overclocked CPU compared to only 3 percent on the stock CPU during the write test. While overclocked, switching from DDR3-1333 to DDR3-2133 enhanced write performance by 22 percent, compared to only 7 percent when using standard memory. Seeing how an overclocked CPU affects raw memory bandwidth is interesting, but I’m more interested in seeing how it affects our real-world benchmarks.

The increased bandwidth gained as a result of the overclocked CPU isn’t worth anything in terms of performance. On our overclocked CPU, the first pass of the x264 test displays a 7 percent advantage for DDR3-2133 over DDR3-1333, while the standard CPU shows a 5 percent advantage for DDR3-2133 over DDR3-1333. For both our overclocked and stock CPUs, the boost in performance from DDR3-1600 over DDR3-1333 is 3 percent. The second scan reveals that faster memory on our overclocked system offers no noticeable advantage over slower memory. The Cinebench test results are just as disappointing with overclocking as they are with stock settings: faster memory makes no discernible difference whether the system is overclocked or not (though the faster CPU clock speed definitely helps a lot).

These were purchased for a customer’s build, but the colours on the Asus sabertooth x79 motherboard clash horribly with them, therefore I’d recommend any of the corsair dominatior DIMMs instead, even though the specs are identical.
